Which two personalities have the highest survival chance as a pair?
Does a happy marriage exist only in a fantasy world? Or will you give up on pursuing it, distancing yourself from your spouse, waiting until the partner dies or your children leave the nest? Was it a misfortune brought by the wrong partner chosen because you were unlucky? As I will discuss in more detail, the clinical findings show that relationships in marriages are mostly modeled after the relationships experienced with someone with whom we are familiar, including the primary caregivers or caretakers, unless you choose them by lottery. After only 5 minutes of meeting and talking with a candidate, we can determine whether the person can be our lover because the unconscious emotional paring process gives us excitement and comfort.
Young people tend to seek their partners with quite the opposite personality. However, even when the outward characters look different, their emotional and psychological development are usually at similar or adjacent stages, as we will explore later. It may be out of one’s desire to complete the developmental milestone that has not been overcome due to the arrestment made through traumas and parenting experiences. Ironically, after the marriage is ripe, however, couples start feeling disappointed that they will not be able to overcome their unfinished milestones through their partners. They hate and break up with their partner for the same reason they chose them.
We experience the breakdown of fantasies 5 to 7 years after marriage, called the 7-year itch. It can be when you come to realize the reality of the partner. However, those who seek fantasy, not the truth of themselves, continue their journey into the endless searching process.
Since these personalities often do not change after marriage, the effort to change drains their energy, causing great psychological stress and harm to children who were born without knowing the endless conflict between their parents.
If the healthier partner of the conflicted marriage or relationship gathers the courage to find the truth about their personalities, the new revelation will eventually affect even the spouse unwilling to change. So, while a marriage would be a fantasy crasher for those who turn blind eyes to reality, it can also be a rewarding place for partners who want to continue progressing along their path with the truth regarding who they are and what personalities they have.Â

Depending on their personality type, people involved in a relationship may
experience various stage-specific reasons for infatuation, attraction, conflict, communication breakdown, and dissatisfaction in the marriage. Personality conflicts may result from the different emotional and psychological needs specific to the
personality.
If you can find out the personalities of yourself and your partners, you can understand why you chose each other.
Psychologists tend to interpret the illusion of finding love as a yearning for oneness (or fusion) with the mother when the infant is in the mother’s womb. The problem is that even if we meet with the other person through matchmaking, marrying someone we do not like is unthinkable. Therefore, for those who have not thoroughly examined their own personalities, the question of what type of personalities to choose in selecting a marriage partner is often a dice that has already been fatefully thrown into the selection due to the action of the unconscious.
Clinical studies show that unless we meet partners through a lottery, we choose a partner who can emotionally and psychologically help overcome our unfinished stages of development. In other words, we often fall in love with someone essential to overcome the developmental goal we have not successfully arrived at.
It is a well-known fact in psychology that we choose a spouse with a similar image to our past parents (especially those who experienced our first close relationship) as our marriage partner or that we will eventually seek such a spouse even after marriage. This tendency to unconsciously choose a spouse who plays a role like that of their home is called Invisible Family Loyalty. We usually tend to unconsciously choose a spouse who resembles both parents’ good and bad images. Or it may reflect the fact ourÂ
personalities are formed and shaped to be similar to our parents’ personalities through their reinforcement by the parenting styles employed by them.
Until we fully understand our true personalities and inner nature, we do not know how many mistakes we may make before choosing the right partner. Sometimes you keep meeting and getting divorced, and only through education and counseling do you meet a healthy spouse for the first time. Until they realize their unfinished business or blind spot, healthy partners do not come to meet their eyes as good spousal candidates. Even if they meet a healthy spouse by luck, they may feel boredom that they do not know the cause of, and then seek an abusive partner they were used to. For a healthy marriage, learning to overcome the unfinished emotional milestones of own through finding your personalities can be far wiser and safer than trying a hundred candidates.Â
